Being Positive About England

The Anglo-Saxon/Stafford Knot.

Anyone who knows anything about Staffordshire, is that; a) it is in the Doomsday Book established by King William 1st of England (William the Conqurer); b) that Staffordshire is in that part of England that was known as the Kingdom of Mercia. What is little known, is that the main symbol of Staffordshire, the Saffordshire knot (more properly refered to as the Stafford knot), is a symbol that goes back to Anglo-Saxon times, used as far as is known, as one of many knot patterns used in Anglo-Saxon art forms like jewellery. The images shown on your right illustrate this. Just remember, that many art forms today, though may appear new, are art forms that go back many centuries, and are a part of the wonderful continuing story that is England.
